Shake the bottle

Shake Skabi-Rid well before use. Everyone being treated should do this on the same night, usually at bedtime.

Directions from the package insert

  1. Shake the bottle before use.
  2. Apply the lotion over the whole body from the ears all the way down to the soles of the feet.
  3. Do not apply directly to the face. Avoid contact with the eyes; if lotion gets into the eyes, flush with water immediately.
  4. Leave on overnight and wash off the following morning, after eight to twelve hours.
  5. Repeat after two weeks if necessary.

Everyone in close contact must be treated on the same night, whether or not they have symptoms. This is the most important step in stopping scabies from coming back. Work out how much lotion you need.

Places people often miss

  • Behind the ears and the back of the neck
  • Between the fingers and toes, and under the nails
  • Wrists, elbows and armpits
  • Waist, navel, groin, genitals and buttocks
  • The back (ask someone to help) and the soles of the feet

The morning after

Wash the lotion off with normal soap and water and put on clean clothes. Wash bedding, towels and clothes used in the three days before treatment in hot water (60 °C or higher) and dry them on a hot cycle or in the sun. Seal anything that cannot be washed in a plastic bag for at least three days.

Itching can carry on for a few weeks while the skin settles. If it is not improving, or new burrows appear, see your doctor or pharmacist.
