Skabi-Rid is registered for the treatment of scabies. Using it for body or pubic lice is not a registered indication. A clinic, doctor or pharmacist can confirm what you have and advise on treatment.

Pubic lice ("crabs")
Pubic lice are parasitic insects that feed on human blood. They are short and crab-like, about the size of a pencil tip, and attach to hair in the pubic area, causing itching. Their eggs can also be found on eyelashes. They are usually passed on through sexual contact. Shaving or waxing on its own will not get rid of them.
- Get checked at a clinic or by your doctor, and tell sexual partners from the past month so they can be treated too.
- Avoid sexual contact until you and your partners have been treated.
- Put on clean underwear and clothes after treatment.
Body lice
Body lice are a little bigger, about the size of a sesame seed. They live and lay eggs in the seams of clothing and bedding and only come onto the skin to feed. They cause itching all over the body and can carry disease, including typhus fever.
- Regularly wash bed linen and underclothes in hot water and dry them in the sun or on a hot cycle.
- Machine-wash anything used in the two to three days before treatment in hot water.
- Items that cannot be washed can be sealed in a plastic bag for two weeks.
